Yavor is an Ottawa based singer / songwriter who has been playing and performing music for over forty-five years. In his early 20’s, he worked in the hi tech industry while playing solo and band gigs on the weekends in various local establishments. In his late 20’s, he discovered meditation and at the age of 35, his life took a major detour.
At that time he became a steward at a Buddhist monastery near Thunder Bay, ON. Under the guidance of the resident monk, he practiced meditation and absorbed a new way of being that he realized he had always thirsted for. He then resided in the nearby town of Nolalu, living a simpler life and playing in a folk trio in Thunder Bay while continuing to write songs for his 2011 debut album, “
Going Against the Flow”.
June of 2018 marked the release of Yavor’s newest full length album, “Coming Home“. The album was written over the course of seven years and recorded in the winter of 2018. It features the local talents of Clayton Connell (Keys), Tara Holloway & Claire Kuzmyk (Backup vocals), Greggory Clark (Bass), Jeff Kingsbury (Drums), Don Wallace (guitar) and Yavor (vocals, guitar).
“Coming Home” was recorded by the multi-talented Dean Watson at Gallery Sound Studio and mastered by Phil Bova Jr, who has worked on multiple Polaris Prize and Juno Award winning records.
“Wheels of Time” was recorded in the spring of 2021 at Gallery Sound Studio with Dean Watson once again the helm. All the songs were recorded live with Yavor [vocals, guitar], Clayton Connell [keys], Caylan Penny [bass] and Stephen Adubofuor on drums. Backup Vocals were sung by Savannah Atout. Once again mastered by Phil Bova Jr.
“Beyond The Fears” [2024] is his Fourth Album release and opens up even more to his creative possibilities. Catchy melodies, layered harmonies and authenticity are some of the ingredients woven into the songs on this Album. Each song has it’s unique energy and takes the listener on a musical journey.
Yavor’s music is a unique combination of Folk, Jazz, Blues and Classic Rock, which inspires him to explore a myriad of musical styles, while creating a strong emotional connection to his audience. The songs on his latest album were crafted at open mics, busking on the streets of Ottawa and at various solo gigs.
Yavor’s songs are an expression of the interior landscape of his human experience and emotions. An ever evolving moment in time.
